40k2ndACVII - Contact on long range scanners, its reinforcements!

With a long test of patience, the Blood Angels are finally receiving reinforcements.

Ive signed up for 40k 2nd Edition Army Challenge, edition 7!

As with my previous entry we are painting 1000pts of 2nd Edition 40k, over 6 months. You split your army into 5 parts, leaving a spare month as a buffer due to any bumps on the road.  I really enjoyed my last participation so cant wait to get stuck in.

40k2ndACIII Month 6 - Time is up, brushes down, lets see what you have done!

Well what a fun time we have had, Ive thoroughly enjoyed building and painting up this little force. From picking through my stash for the best minis at the beginning, to pouring over classic codex and White Dwarf for inspiration. My force totals 1000pts (ok 993) as I have not had time to add extra as Id hoped, but I am still ecstatic with what i have. This month was about finishing those details i had missed in previous months, namely the back banners!

40k2ndACIII Month 5 - 2nd Halfs

Month 5 marks the completion of the final scheduled unit of the challenge. Ive had some great fun doing this so it was great to finish of the planned army list with a nice simple unit with no deadline stress.

40k2ndACIII Month 4 - Heavy Metal

March was the biggest month in my plan, 2 vehicles. In words not so much, but the preparation, sub assemblies and amount of detail was even more than I had expected. But the results… I’m so happy!

40k2ndACIII Month 3 - Support and Command

Month 3 (February 2022) of the 40k 2nd Edition Army Challenge 3 (40k2ndACIII) by c0wabunga.com was planned to be an easy month, just to catch my breath incase the challenge was becoming a burden, however I am still thoroughly enjoying painting these tiny little models despite the challenges of old metal which is easily damaged.

As an 'easy' month only 3 models to add, but im very happy with how they turned out. A techmarine, an apothecary, and a Lexicanum Librarian.

40k2ndACIII Month 2 - Total Devastation

Month 2 (January 2022) of the 40k 2nd Edition Army Challenge 3 (40k2ndACIII) by c0wabunga.com saw me complete my Devastator combat squad. Equipped with a missile launcher and a heavy bolter this would be a straightforward task... but lets add a little twist.

Slice 1 - Pt.2 Fire*power

As mentioned in Slice 1 - Pt.1, there is another model for this stage of the project that takes a big chunk of inspiration from the 2nd edition 40k box art, and that is the special weapons operative with flamer (fire power, get it? LOL)

Slice 1 - Pt.1 - Sergeants orders

December marks the start of the painting challenge and Slice 1 for me will be the champion chaplain and a tactical combat squad. Today I want to go into detail about the sergeant of that squad and what influences I will be taking for his paint scheme.

40k2ndACIII - Time to muster - Angels of Death

With a test of painting complete for October it is time to muster the first army for the Second War for Armageddon, the Blood Angels.

As with October I plan to enter, or at least paint along with, another Instagram challenge for the next phase of the Blood Angels army. This time its the 40k 2nd Edition Army Challenge 3, where participants paint 2nd edition 1000points in 6 months, documenting their progress. Ive followed previous editions of this challenge and been amazed by the models people paint, so hopefully I can add my own to the tally.

The Trial - A Venerable Ancient

As mentioned in the Introduction I hope to build and paint models inspired by the 40k 2nd edition box set and the Second War for Armageddon narrative. What better place to start than with the primary subjects of that box, the Blood Angels. Having a few models already and a few more from ebay I was able to put together a great potential force worthy of a 10 year old me's dream.. But before I committed to building and painting my planned forces, and then committing that process to a blog, I thought it best to do a test to see if I could actually achieve the style and painting standard I wanted to reach.

I needed a challenge and what I stumbled upon was a painting challenge on Instagram named #dreadtober (and compiled on a blog by the creator 'm4cr0dutch') to build and paint a Dreadnought in a month (October).  What better starting point for my 2nd edition force than that the Venerable Ancient walking coffin, and a huge chunk of metal in both the lore and the hand.
